Orthodontics is the area of Dentistry concerned with the study, diagnosis and treatment of malocclusion (improper bites). These improper bites are the result of tooth irregularity and problems with how the upper and lower jaws relate to each other.
The first visit ideally is at age 10. At this age, we are able to check if the teeth are erupting correctly, when an interceptive treatment may be started if a problem is detected. This may involve appliances to promote the growth of a small lower or upper jaw. Occasionally, children are referred by their Dentist earlier to correct early irregularities such as cross-bites.
Most of all Dr Hone’s Patients are adults. As long as the teeth and gums are healthy, it is never too late to have orthodontic treatment. There are new aesthetic techniques available that make adult treatment quicker and less visible than ever before.
A beautiful smile has never been easier or more affordable to achieve! A visit to your general Dentist is always a good idea to get a clean bill of dental health prior to starting a course of orthodontics.
